Barry J House writes speculative fiction: from SF to horror. His science fiction tales are sometimes dark, sometimes humorous, while his horror stories are mainly psychological, occasionally gory. He has been a fan of the genre from the moment he first saw the film Forbidden Planet on TV at the tender age of six or seven.
Barry was born and bred in Hampshire, England, and there is a strong family rumour that he is a descendant of the Dorset poet, William Barnes, so he believes that it was inevitable he would start writing seriously, one day. In recent years, his stories have been published in speculative fiction magazines/anthologies on both sides of the Atlantic. Barry is a member of the Horror Writers Association.
His new comedy science fiction novella I Was Probed by Aliens and Lived to Tell the Tale! is about a man named Will Brown, a bit of a loner, who is whisked away from his humdrum life here on Earth and led through a series of comic encounters, ultimately learning the true nature of friendship.
Besides the comedy novella, Barry has two novels currently in progress. A collection of his short speculative fiction tales Obsidian Dreams is scheduled for publication in 2008. Click here to read a story example
